6 Reasons to Join Brentwood Barbell

The world sure has changed a lot since we opened Brentwood Barbell 2.0 in February of 2020.

The gym business was rough for quite some time, and in some ways still is. However, there are great gyms out there helping people improve their health.

If you’re on the fence about booking a call with one of our coaches, I want to share with you 6 great reasons to go ahead and hit the blue button.

Reason #1: Increased Accountability

Our coaches work to stay connected to our athletes through regular communication, data tracking, and quarterly goal reviews. We love to nerd out about program design and exercise science but our first job is to hold you to your goals.

Reason #2: Training Personalization

A lot of gyms talk about custom programing but here’s how we actually do it.

First, you’ll go through our Intro Program. I’ve written about our Intro Program before (go here). The Intro Program is to put you on the platform and assess your skills with the basic barbell exercises. We figure it best if you know HOW to do the lifts BEFORE we ask you to do them WELL.

Every athlete we work with completes their own Intro Program, here is what we cover:

  • the core barbell exercises (squat, press, bench press, deadlift)
  • basic aerobic assessment (usually involves sleds or bikes)
  • body composition assessment (we like the In Body scanner)
  • personalized accessory exercises (based on client specifics)
  • nutrition consultation (we cover protein intake and energy balance needed for the client’s goal)

After your Beginner program has been completed (~ 90 days), we’ll then sit down with you and find out how you did. From there, we’ll book the next 90 days and place you in one of our specialty tracks:

  • Strength & Conditioning
  • Masters Strength & Conditioning
  • Powerlifting
  • Strengthlifting
  • Strongman
  • Powerbuilding

Each 90 days you get a meeting with your coach and put on the program most appropriate for your goals, schedule, and current fitness abilities.

Reason #3: Program Flexibility

To best serve our members, we offer a range of coaching subscriptions. While we don’t do contracts, we do revisit the coaching subscription conversation about every 90 days to make sure we’re best serving our athletes. We talk specifically about:

  • Private Strength Coaching Program
  • Hybrid Strength Coaching Program
  • Group Strength Coaching Program

Reason #4: Habit Coaching

Your coach will help you build structure into your days and weeks that keep you moving toward your goal(s). Sometimes this can be a list of “to do” items but ultimately, we want to partner with you and help you build strategies that feel natural and don’t rely on long-term grit or determination. We want to work to meet you where you are and build sustainable habits with you.

Reason #5: Social Connection

We are social beings, and being happy means staying connected! In our gym, each member knows the others. We know their families and what sports their kids are playing this fall. I’ve always felt like our gym was equal parts barbell gym and coffee shop. We work hard to get better but we also get to know each other and cheer each other on.

Reason #6: Getting Stronger Will Change Your Life

As Mark Bell says “strength is never a weakness and weakness is never a strength”. When a person gets stronger they change. Their mind and body changes. They can see the differences in the mirror yes, but what they also have is a new level of confidence. They know they can do hard things. The importance of being able to trust yourself to get the job done cannot be overstated.
