Taking charge of your health and fitness can seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. At Brentwood Barbell, we believe that what separates successful people from those who struggle is the repeated execution of the basics. To support this philosophy, we have built a system designed to maximize coaching touchpoints and ensure you’re never on the journey alone. Here is exactly how we guide you from Day 1 to reaching your long-term goals.

Phase 1: The Foundations Program (Your 1-on-1 Introduction)
We think every successful journey starts with a map. Before throwing you into a busy gym environment, you will start with our Foundations Program. This is a dedicated 1-on-1 introduction to our process. During these private sessions, your coach will work with you to:
- Develop proper technique for foundational barbell movements.
- Show you how our gym functions and how to use the equipment.
- Establish your baseline fitness and nutrition skillsets.
- Help you set clear, manageable goals.
Phase 2: Choose Your Ideal Coaching Track
Once you graduate from your Foundations program, you’ll have a great understanding of the basics. From there, your coach will help you choose the specific coaching format that best fits your lifestyle, budget, and preference:
- Personal Training (PT): Private, 1-on-1 coaching for maximum focus and highly tailored session adjustments.
- Small Group Training: Train alongside a supportive community of like-minded members while still receiving individual coaching attention.
- Hybrid Training: A flexible mix of PT coaching and structured group coaching.

Phase 3: Achieving your Goals
We believe in the power of keeping score, so our system has been designed to facilitate regular communication between the coaching staff and our athletes. If you don’t track your progress accurately, it’s easy to lose motivation. We think people leave gyms when they no longer see a path toward their goal(s), so we want to have an in-depth understanding of exactly why you’re here along with how well you think it’s going.
Every quarter (90 days)
Goal Reviews are completed. During this review, we use our InBody Scan to analyze your exact body composition. Tracking changes in muscle/fat mass rather than using the standard bathroom scale is useful when designing programs. Based on your results, our coaches update your individualized exercise and nutrition programs for the next 90 days.
Progress Self-Report Questionnaires are completed each month. This quick check-in allows you to rank how well you are executing the core habits of your program (strength, movement, and nutrition). These “reports” help us connect with members that might be struggling or experiencing waning motivation. After much trial and error, we’ve specifically added this component to our program in order to address the “I fall off” comments that we hear so often.
Training Programs are updated every 90 days to facilitate athlete growth. Quality (effective) strength training should be progressive. The 3 sets of 5 reps that used to be enough, won’t work forever. Our programming model at Brentwood Barbell works with your growth as an athlete to keep you progressing and hitting PRs.
By combining individual coaching plans, consistent physiological tracking, and monthly self-reporting, we ensure your program stays completely relevant to your busy life and goals. This is truly custom coaching that delivers results.

Frequently Asked Questions
“I’m over 40… am I too old for this?”
Absolutely not. In fact, strength training becomes more critical as we age to maintain muscle density, protect joints, and keep our metabolism running strong. Our program is designed specifically to help adults build strength safely and effectively, on their own timeline, without overtaxing their busy lives.
“I’ve never trained strength before… is this really for me?”
Yes, this is exactly why we built the Foundations Program. We don’t expect you to walk through the door knowing how to squat or deadlift. We take a 1-on-1 approach with every new member, starting with the bare basics and building your confidence at your own pace. I can’t overstate this common error made by many gyms: athletes cannot perform well (i.e., execute the plan) if they have not developed the necessary skills (i.e., how to lift, basic safety considerations, etc.).
“I don’t want to get bulky or gain weight. Will this make me too big?”
This is one of the most common fears for women, but building massive “bulk” requires an intentional, massive surplus of calories and years of specific training. Our athlete’s strength train 3x and are looking to build lean, functional physiques. This is what most people would describe as a “toned” look.
“My main goal is weight loss… should I still be strength training?”
Yes, 100%. If you only do cardio and restrict calories, you will lose weight—but a large portion of that weight will come from lost muscle. Strength training ensures that the weight you lose comes from fat mass, while also protecting the muscle tissue that keeps your metabolic rate high and your body moving pain-free.
A Customized Experience Built to Last
If you can’t live with the program, you won’t live with the results. By combining individual coaching, regular physiological tracking, and monthly self-reporting, we ensure your program stays completely customized to your busy life.
